ESI encourages its teachers to spend the first couple of months adjusting to teaching and living overseas. Many hours are spent in devising creative, well-planned lessons. Once adjusted to the host culture, ESI teachers often find opportunities for extracurricular involvement. Some teachers have organized after-school leagues in American sports like baseball or football. Others have launched English Clubs at the request of students and colleagues.
